As per GST rules, it is mandatory for a business which has a turnover of more than Rs. 40 lakhs to register as a general taxable institution(20 lacs in the case of the service sector). However, to become that general taxable institution, you have to do a simple GST registration process. Turnover is Rs 10 lakh for businesses located in hilly states and northeastern states. GST registration online can be done easily on the online GST portal. The owner of the business can fill out a form on the GST portal and submit the necessary documents for registration. Step by step guide for online GST registration process in GST portal
The step-by-step procedure that individuals should follow to complete GST registration is mentioned below:
Step – 1: Visit GST Portal
Step – 2: Click on the register now link which can be easily found under the taxpayer’s tab
Step – 3: Select ‘New Registration’.
Step – 4: Fill in the details mentioned below:
- Under the ‘I am a’ drop-down menu, select ‘Taxpayer’.
- Select the respective state and district.
- Enter Business Name.
- Enter the Business PAN.
- Enter the email ID and mobile number in the respective box. The email ID and mobile number entered must be active as the OTP will be sent to them.
- Enter the image shown on the screen and click ‘Proceed’.
Step – 5: On the next page, enter the OTP sent to the email box and mobile number in the respective box.
Step 6: As soon as the details are entered, click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 7: You will be shown a temporary reference number (TRN) on the screen. Pay attention to TRN.
Step – 8: Revise the GST portal and click on ‘Under Register’ under the Taxpayers’ menu.
Step – 9: Select ‘Temporary Reference Number (TRN)’.
Step 10: Enter TRN and Captcha details.
Step 11: Click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 12: You will get an OTP on your email id and registered mobile number. Enter OTP on the next page and click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 13: The status of your application you will see on the next page. On the right, there will be an editing icon, click on it.
Step 14: The next page will have 10 sections. All relevant details must be filled in, and required documents submitted. The list of documents to be uploaded is given below:
- Business Address Proof
- Bank details such as account number, bank name, bank branch, and IFSC code.
- Authorization form
- Constitution of the taxpayer.
Step – 15: Go to the ‘Verification’ page and check the declaration, then apply using one of the methods mentioned below:
- By electronic verification code (EVC). The OTP or verification code will be sent to the registered mobile number.
- By e-sign method. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card.
- If companies are registering, the application must be submitted using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
Step – 16: Once registration is completed, a success message will be shown on the screen. The application reference number will be sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.
Step – 17: You can check the status of ARN on the GST portal.
